A Month-Long Celebration to Appreciate the Migrant Workers in Singapore

Updated: Feb 1

On Sunday, 18 December 2022, over 9,300 people gathered at Little India to celebrate the International Migrants Day. It is an event or occasion dedicated to our guest worker brothers and sisters who contribute towards a better and stronger Singapore, organized jointly by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and Alliance of Guest Workers Outreach (AGWO). Around 70 brothers and sisters represented their countries to showcase special performances on the stage. This event was just one of the many other activities that had been organised to celebrate the International Migrants Day, from 20 November to 25 December.

To bring the celebrations closer to the community, the ACE Group of MOM collaborated with AGWO to organise the main event on IMD at Little India, graced by the Senior Minister of State for Manpower, Dr Koh Poh Koon. The migrant workers participated in cultural activities, enjoyed meals from their home countries, and watched performances by their peers, in their native languages. During this festive season and as part of IMD celebrations as well, the migrant domestic workers (MDWs) were brought to Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay, organised by Alliance of Domestic Employees Outreach (ADEO)—another movement of HIA—to bring joy and cheer to them.
